Health and hygiene are foundations of dignity; when girls are supported to manage their health, they are empowered to stay in school and shape their future.
We educate the community on the importance of personal cleanliness and maintaining a clean environment. In Kenya’s marginalized communities, particularly in rural areas, poverty rates are high, making access to basic necessities difficult. Girls in these areas face significant challenges, particularly when it comes to managing their menstrual cycles. The inability to afford sanitary pads not only affects their self-esteem but also increases their risk of missing important lessons.
These obstacles often result in missed classes, poor exam performance, dropping out of school, and in some cases, early pregnancies. At LiMA, we are working to close these gaps by distributing sanitary towels on a monthly basis to the students we work with during our training sessions. This initiative aims to reduce early pregnancies, help girls stay in school, and ensure they do not miss classes due to menstrual-related challenges.
